Ma, Pa,Colin & Sue's half successful day trip to London

A couple of weeks ago while there was still sun in the sky mum, dad, Colin & Sue came over to visit. We started off by going to the Lucian Freud exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery. I'm loving the fact that there are so many great exhibitions on at the moment, 2012 is definitely London's year! The exhibition was a bit too busy to enjoy it properly but I really loved learning about Freud's way of painting & how it developed over the years. I must say though I loved his earlier work the best.
Once we left the gallery we headed to Highgate to visit the cemetery (it's really picturesque & lots of famous names are in there including Karl Marx, don't worry we're not all closet goths!). Armed with our Lumix's dad & I started to click our way round the park next door. I finally got to try out my new polarising filter too with some rather lovely results.
We got to the cemetery about 4:30 all ready to get some lovely afternoon sun shots to find it was closing! Nooo! We didn't even think to check the closing time so were pretty gutted as we were turned away. I'd even put a lovely black&white roll of film in my robot camera to get some lovely contrasting shots too. Chuh! I managed to get a few shots through the gates though & we'll definitely be returning sometimes soon.
We headed back into Highgate to grab a cuppa back at ours before everyone went home. Ah well it was an afternoon out of the office & I found out what a pretty place Highgate really is.

Sounds great! I love going to exhibiions. It's always so interesting to see an artist's work in a broader perspective!

Ladies what #ldnlunch

After a few deep breaths I plucked up the courage to walk into the Jetlag bar in Fitzrovia & meet some fellow blogging lovelies. I'd first heard about Ldnlunch On Eloise's blog . I'd always wanted to go to a blogger meet so I put my name down straight away. I was a bit nervous when I realised there were about 40 other girls going who's blogs were mainly about fashion, whereas mine is just random ramblings from inside my brain box but decided I'd still go seeing as I had nothing to lose! I arrived expecting to be early but there were already lots of people sitting down for drinks & food so I grabbed a drink & perched on a pooffe. I just ordered a bowl of chips (how adventurous!) but I did pick off the plates around me (yoink! Thanks Lois! ). Londoners pt1

For Chrimbo Adam gave me a book called "Londoners. The days & nights of London now - as told by those who love it, hate it, live it, left it & long for it" by Craig Taylor. After reading the introduction & before reading any more I decided I'd think about what London & being a Londoner means to me. Even though I picked out bullet points I still got a bit carried away so I'll spread it over a few posts so here goes part 1, I'll start with the one thing that I think of straight away when someone says London to me: ~ the tube is a huge part of London life. It's about sitting on a train for an hour & not knowing what any one's face looks like only their shoes, panic attacks when the train gets stuck in a tunnel without explanation, keeping left, standing on the right spot on a platform so you'll be in front of the doors when they open & also so when you get off you'll be at the exit to the station - even if that exit says no ent

Happy 30th Adam!

Wow what an eventful weekend! Friday was Adam's 30th so we both took the day off work to celebrate together. After sleeping in till 10am Adam finally woke me up asking when I was going to emerge & celebrate his birthday with him - Yoink! So much for the breakfast in bed I had planned. We started the day off as all birthdays should be celebrated - with a trip to Asda! After getting the boring chores out the way we headed to Winter Wonderland (via the Barber) for our annual wander around with a mulled wine in one hand & a Bratwurst in the other all polished off with a pretzel. We stopped off at the Carousel bar to watch the world go by (literally! The whole bar rotates really slowly) & have another mulled wine while putting the world to rights before heading off for dinner in Hammersmith.
