Do you swing often?!

Image
It's not every Monday you get asked that question! Or maybe I will from now often...no get your mind out of the gutter....I went to what I hope will be the start of many classes with Swing Patrol. I've been meaning for years to give it a go with these guys & I finally decided to get off my backside & do it & wow had I missed that wonderful dance rush! I learned all about the side by side Charleston & I can't believe how much we covered. It was so much fun. So now I'm one of those weird people who don't groan when Monday comes around...bring it on! Ttfn x

And all that Jive!

Image
I'm back baby! After taking an unwanted break from Jive since the wedding (I still have a black toenail but it's not gonna take away my fun any longer!) I popped down to Oval last night for my first JiveNation class of the year & boy was it ace! It's always fun to catch up with familiar faces & on top of that I had some brilliant dances! I was a bit rusty at first but once I'd dusted away the cobwebs from the 'jive' section of my brain & I remembered what a smoothback was I was laughing! I'll just leave you with a video of Max & I jiving our little hearts out at the wedding. I might not be the greatest dancer in the world but I love every second of every dance & that's what matters right?! It also helps when you have a proper twirly princess dress on! ;) Ttfn x

spot the difference

Image
last night was the Jive Nation Chrimbo party & me & my sister-from-another-mister rocked up in our festive jumpers see if you can spot the difference :P GIF animations generator gifup.com It was a great evening - I may have missed the class due to nattering away (typical!) but I had some great freestyles later on. Bar Lenuccia are always so welcoming & the atmosphere's brill. It got even better when the mulled wine was brought out in a giant wine glass followed by a huge Panettone! They sure know how to look after a load of festive dancers. :P Later on Kev & Aggie did a spectacular showcase, we're so lucky to have them as teachers (& friends!), if you ever get a chance to see them you must. Well that was my last jive of 2011. I'm definately hoping to dance a hell of a lot more next year & it's going to be one of my resolutions I'm really wanting to stick to (come on, we all make ones that we know we ain't gonna stick to & this ain...

Journal Day - "the one thing you know for sure"

Image
Danielle at Sometimes Sweet has given us another brief for Journal Day. See her entry here . “The older we get, the more certain we get about who we are and what our purpose is.  For me, a lot of it is still unknown, but as I make my way down my own path, I have begun to realize that there are indeed some inevitable truths that I know for sure. On your own blog, write a post that talks about "the one thing you know for sure."” I wasn’t really sure where to start with this till it hit  me last night after my 2nd crappy day at work in a row. I was almost ready to head home, curl up on the sofa & watch mind-numbing tv *ahem* jersey shore *ahem* & not bother with heading to Jive but there was a little bit of me that knew if I went I’d forget everything & leave with a smile on my face. Do you know what? It worked! So my answer to the one thing I know for sure is: “No Matter How Bad Your Day Was, a Good Old Dance Will Perk You Up.” As I was typing my theme I reme...

Dancing in the streets!

Image
For Father's Day this year ma & pa came down to London to me rather than me heading up to them. We headed into town for the Marylebone Street Fayre which only meant one thing....a ruddy good afternoon of dancing! Jive Nation dusted off the trusty roll up dancefloor & got ready for a boogie. I was dragged up for my first dance by Lou followed by Teddy. I went over to get something out of my bag & turned around to see mum&dad heading for the dancefloor & I thought "aw sweet they're gonna have a little bop," then they completely wowed me by actually jiving! Apparently they've been to classes in secret & were going to shock me at the wedding but couldn't keep still when they heard the music! It was so cool to see them dancing away & I even got to have a few dances with dad which was a lovely way to spend Father's Day. The only thing left to say is Happy Dad's Day :-) xKtPx

London calling

Image
Headed into central London yesterday to do some comp shopping & see what's around in the world of mens shirts. I started off at Libertys, had a look around carnaby street & ended up on oxford street right by primark (no idea how that happened!) It was fun wandering round carnaby street in the sunshine & luckily it wasn't too busy. The shops were all looking good with their spring stock but I just can't get over how many denim & chambray shirts there are out there at the moment! Saw some great ideas, but most if all it was good to know that our collections for that season were right on track. Phew! When I was on carnaby street I had to pop into Johnny cupcakes to see what they had. It's such a fab shop, tho the number of people coming in who wanted an actual cupcake & ended up leaving disappointed was quite funny! So many shops had the royal wedding as their theme which was ace! I can't believe it's come around so quickly. I've not deci...

Withdrawl symptoms....

I was doing so well with not missing facebook. That was until I went to the jive nation ball last night! I'm now being tagged left right & centre in photos & can't view any of them & it's driving me mad! All I have seen so far is the photo above that Adam took of me before I went out! At least I didn't drink so there's no photos of me passed out on the floor or crying in the background that I need to de-tag myself in! The other big news is I've finally joined the 21st century & have an iPhone so I can blog on the move whenever & wherever (just like Shakira!). roaming reporter KtPx

the little train that could

finally i have some motivation! when everyone else is just starting to hibernate & slow down for the winter & i'm ready & raring to go! i've missed this feeling of wanting to do stuff straight away instead of pushing things back & back & the to do list growing instead of me crossing things off but now the times are a changing! not sure if it's cos chrimbo is upon us & i'm getting stupidly excited as always & so am eager to do lots, but whatever it is i hope it stays around long enough for me to tick off most of what's on my list & start the new year with a fairly clean slate. here's to hoping! one reason i'm excited is that by june next year i should have no debt (except for my student loan which doesn't really count cos it comes out of my account before i even know about it!). it'll be brill to have that little bit of extra cash to save, go jiving more, buy that odd top & not feel guilty about it & go on...

We like to boogie….

Image
A couple of weekends ago I went to a jive dance weekender in skegness at the butlins there. Now this was the weekends of many firsts: 1. I’d never been to skeggy, believe it or not I’m from the midlands & never been there! 2. I’d never been to a butlins. 3. I’d never been on a dance weekender. So it was bound to be good from the start! We (lou, max, teddy & I) all met at kings cross & caught 2 trains to skeggy. We finally arrived about 6pm & checked into our 4 person chalet which was brilliant. Had a spot of dinner & headed off to 1 of the 2 dancefloors that were there especially for us. The challet - teddy, me, lou & max In total I think there were about 1,000 people there all ready to jive, west coast swing & blues their socks off! We were then joined by 4 more people from jivenation - gotham, ellie, courtney & neil. We started dancing at 11pm Friday night & finished 5am Monday morning with very little sleep in between. There were classes ...

....the Addam's Family! (not true at all but was the best title I could come up with!) Easter was different for me this year – it was my first holiday with Adam’s family. Mum was so busy with church that I’m seeing them this weekend instead so we stayed at Lisa’s house & had 3 days with them in Essex. It was my first experience of a noisy & busy family time. It’s usually just Mum, Dad, Adam & me relaxing, watching tv & going for a walk. This time on the Sunday there were Adam’s parents, Jenna & Matt, Lisa & Nick, Brandon, Adam & me plus a psycho cat! Looking back on it it was quite fun to be part of such a bubbly family celebration but at certain points I wished I’d had my ear plugs! It’ll take a bit of getting used to but not in a bad way just a different way. I still managed to get a walk in though which was fun (had to walk off the amazing meal cooked by Lisa to make room for the gooey chocolate cake Matt had made!) & everyone came along. Lisa ...

I must say I’m rather pooped!

That’ll learn me for having too much fun! It’s been all systems go recently in ktp’s world. There are lots of things happening in the pipeline but I don’t want to jinx anything yet until it’s properly confirmed. Oooooh cryptic or what?! I’ve also been having much fun at jive which is sadly down to just one venue a week for a bit until we find another amazing dancefloor to go & invade! Hopefully 2 or even 3 classes a week will be up and running again soon. I kind of thought that I’d end up having more nights off a week but boy was I wrong!! I can’t just enjoy some time off & relax & do the washing & cleaning it seems, I still end up filling my weeks! Ah well! I’ve got back into the habit I had in India where I find as many little opportunities to catch a little sleep as possible! Power naps are the future! Had an ace weekend catching up with a lot of the india girlies – anna, emhen, becca & I all had a road trip down to Bournemouth to see NatNat & we had an a...

dancing on the ceiling

well i've been dancing everywhere else why not there too?! I've been well & truely bitten by the jive bug! It's crazy! I'm going about 2/3 times a week and i love it! This week i wasn't supposed to go at all cos i was busy every night but the meal i had on tuesday ended at 9 so instead of thinking 'yay early night' i ended up sneaking off to jive till 11pm! I've tured into a proper night owl the past few weeks and i love it! Went to a fab party last saturday night at the rivoli ballroom for jive louises birthday. It was a stunning place packed with jivers & lindy hoppers & there was a live band too. The only downside was the heat, i must have lost so much weight from just sweating! Lovely thought there! Other stuff ive been doing.......been to quite a few tv recordings - my family, argumental, milton jones..., mum & dad came last week which was ace - we went to see les mis & dad ended up hob nobbing with daniel radcliffe! Only trouble...

just call me mr motivator!

dunno what's got into me but i feel really motivated and want to do everything NOW! it's a nice feeling for once! instead of the whole i'll do it tomorrow attitude. no wait a minute....it's gone again! aaah and i can breath again and leave everything till tomorrow! :P it was just a passing moment! work's good and my back is getting better, i've been at physio for a few months now and it's made a difference even if it does hurt like hell every time he elbows my hip! jive is the main thing i'm so happy about at the moment. i've made some great mates and have such a fun night out! i've started going twice a week too. gets me out of the house anyways and more importantly out of the clutches of big brother! can't believe it but it's my 1st year i haven't cared about it at all. crazy! other big news is - rfa has graduated finally (:P) and congrats to him, maybe they'll put up a blue plate at all the houses he lived in in lu...

j-j-j-jive bunny!

well i've been going to jive classes for about 7/8 weeks now and it's brill! really enjoying myself! it's really social and such a good group to join. i went completely on my own hoping to meet people and make new friends and every week i meet one or two more people so it's great! :) it's dead social and they have the class followed by freestyle so you can practise what you've learnt or try out new things and dance with people a lot better than you. it's such a giggle and held in an ace night club at piccadilly circus so has a great atmoshphere too. it's not 1950s jive, it's modern jive so you can dance the steps to anything that has a beat really. old or modern music it all works the same. i ache now though, being spun around all night and dropped over guys knees isn't easy you know! :P xxx

jive bunny here i come!

well i'm feeling a bit more chipper now! just had to get that little rant out and because if it i now think i've managed to find some jive classes in central london so soon i'll be the social butterfly once more! :) xxx
